What is your Job Title?

Gosh I’m not sure what to say. I have so many. I’m the CEO of The Microblading Institute, Founder of BrowSister PMU products, I’m a speaker, I’m a business coach … mom.

Let’s call me a Maven of Business, or whatever Ramona Singer said.

Did you get a degree, and if so is it directly related to your field, if no, what is your degree in?

I have a BS in Child and Family Studies. It’s not directed to my field in any way.

How long have you worked in your industry?

6-7 years.

How did you get started in your industry?

I was working w my degree in a corporate setting and couldn’t bear the thought of sitting in the same room at the same desk for 20 years and justifying “where I was” (Wendy’s, getting lunch. WTF). When I had a miscarriage and was being text and called DURING the miscarriage about where keys were or for passwords… I was like nahhhh I’m going to be my own boss. Motherhood won’t be about someone else’s timetable for me.

What do you wish people knew about your industry?

Nothing. Everyone knows the beauty industry is dope. Some people call it recession proof, a get rich quick scheme, an industry for people who “couldn’t hack college”. I just call it a blessing.

What advice would you give someone looking for their place in your industry?

Start at The Microblading Institute, baby!

What do you think are essential qualities for someone to possess if they are interested in working in your industry?

-Love chatting with people! Even small talk

-Enjoy being flexible

-Buckle up for an ~adventure~, bc that’s what entrepreneurship is

What is the hardest part of your career/industry/job for you?

I’d say never being “off” is an issue. Burnout is prevalent here because we work all day, people use social media to reach out even after hours. And then you go home to be mom and wife so… you’re never allowed to be you and relax.

What is the most fun part of your career/industry/job for you?

I love EVENTS, conferences, speaking engagements—- anytime I can meet new people and get to know them. I also really love having my children work with me. Right now they’re so little, they just sweep and clean up. It’s nice to throw that in a trust for them to mature for later. I think a lot of people think women in beauty businesses are idiots, but I have a better retirement plan and investment strategy than most of my friends.

My five year old is learning to tattoo and has done a cantaloupe so far, lol. I think he’ll eventually work in the shop with me. I may let him tattoo a little heart on me in a few years.

If you could change one thing about your business/industry what would it be?

COLLEAGUES NOT COMPETITORS! That girl across town who does the same thing as you IS NOT your competition. The clients she gets are not clients you didn’t get. Those are not your clients. They were never going to be your clients. They are clients for every artist, every Esthi… you just need to find your people and realize your colleauges are pals who understand you!

If you could do it all over again would you still want to end up where you are now?

Yes, but I’m not finished growing yet. Not by half even… so I wouldn’t go back yet. I’m enjoying the climb too much right now! Every fight and struggle is a new level in this video game of business I’m playing.

If you could meet any businesswoman who would she be and why?

I think Kris Jenner probably. Oh, if I could have a long boozy dinner with Kris and Kim… those two really know how to cook up a BILLI —- and in my exact space btw. Who better to seek counsel from than someone who succeeded before you?! Kris has such a proven track record. She launched 4 millionaire careers and 2 billionaire careers. Say what you will about that family, but they understand business, specifically beauty businesses.

What is the worst advice you've ever gotten, or in hindsight given? Did the advice hinder or embolden your advances?

“Just remember you CAN do it all! You have the same amount of hours in a day as Beyoncé”.

Bullshit. That’s pure bullshit. Beyoncé has 24 hours in a day, plus the 24 she buys from each assistant. She can be doing 15 things at once. She likely has about 900 hours in a day. You can’t do it all, alone.

What does your typical daily schedule look like?

6:30am wake up

Out the door for daycare drop by 7:25

Gym til 8:30

First team meeting of the day.

Then either see clients, do admin stuff, or head to coaching calls til 3. If im lucky, I’m doing that from my makeup counter at home. Other times my office at my shop. Maybe I have a speaking engagement … no typical day, but my mornings are the same.

What does work/life balance mean to you? And how do you personally achieve it?

It means you drop the ball in different places alternating. You can’t ride 2 horses with one ass so some times you have to chose who to leave in the barn today.

What does self care mean to you? How often do you take time for self care, or is it not important for you?

Omgg I love a long luxurious bath. I will sit in that tub and ignore my kids for 90 fulls mins. Idc. Also therapy. I really enjoy my weekly sessions.

How do you show yourself care and compassion while ruling your world?

Oh I forgive me alot.

How often do you schedule time off and vacations?

I practice the Warren Buffet method here. In December, I place nonrefundable deposits for each vacation or holiday for the next 12 months. Now it’s set in stone. We’re going. No matter what.

What did you do for your last vacation or time off?

Im going skiing for Valentine’s Day in just a few weeks. First trip of 2023. We go to winterpark every Valentine’s Day. It’ll be my husband and my 11th anniversary (dating). Our kids are taking their first ski lesson! Im pumped.

Are you a life planner or do you let it go with the flow?

Gotta plan. If it’s not on the calendar it’s not real.

If a planner, what is the next goal you are going to hit?

I want to pick up 3 more income properties in 2023.

What did you want to be when you were a child?

Divorced! Idk why… I thought for sure I was going to be a NYC socialite going to delicious dressy parties and on double dates and have many different husbands so life was always exciting! I wanted to be married like 4-5 times. I wanted a closet filled with furs and diamonds and high heels! I wanted to need to fly home for holidays. I wanted to wear heels everyyyy night and drink wine with lipstick on. So far removed from the mundane field I grew up in lol

If you could do it all over again would you still want to end up where you are now? If no, where do you wish you had gone?

IDK. I guess yeah bc I’m winning the game with a home court advantage. Sometimes I get that itch for that glamorous exciting life. Not all the husbands, turns out one is more than enough LMAO. But the dinners and double dates and dressing up.. we should do more of that.

What else would you like to share with us?

My dog of 14 years, my sweet sweet Molly Racca passed away this summer and if my husband reads this, I’d really like another little blue girly to snuggle with and fill this raging hole in my heart. He’s too hurt to get another pup.
